Cannot Install Hardware

If you are ever hit with this message:

there was a problem installing this hardware

the specified service does not exist as an installed service

Don't bother calling microsoft or searching the net for it. You will pull your hair out for days! I have figured out a fix for it though. It is simple, but requires modifying the registry. Do this at your own risk... we are not responsible for you screwing up your computer.

Edit the registry

Start --> Run


Find the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Delete the "Upper Filter" entry.


You will no longer be faced with that problem.
