Price drop in DDR?

Recommended Posts

I went to a local Staples today (ah yes, fond memories bruceleeon) and saw that a 1GB PC3200 DDR is still around the $150 range. Do you think the prices will drop soon with the advent of DDR2?

Yeah the prices at the local stores are always way too much. I think DDR2 will take over but not until it becomes the standard for AMD. They have just recently started supporting DDR2 so we will see. That is what i think anyway as far as DDR2 making DDR cheaper. However if you think about it pc133 sdram is as high as I have ever seen it and I would have thought that DDR would have made it dirt cheap. Maybe DDR will never get any cheaper than it is right now because DDR2 will just replace it at some point and then the supply of DDR will drop dramatically.

DDR is still going to be used in server environments for a while because DDR2 has too much latency. Granted the speeds are nuts, but... for my servers... not going to happen.
