How PC Power Supplies Work

If there is any one component that is absolutely vital to the operation of a computer, it is the power supply. Without it, a computer is just an inert box full of plastic and metal. The power supply converts the alternating current (AC) line from your home to the direct current (DC) needed by the personal computer.

How Stuff Works

I see questions all the time about this and what rails are important and so forth. Thought I would post it in case anyone asks.

Oh dude! That's some great information. But once I got to that site I just found too many other "How Stuff Works" Articles I wanted to check out. I ended up taking me all night to read all of those interesting articles. I liked the How Cars Work, and the detailed how CPUs Work (expect it seems to be a little older...)
