OS Install using a USB Flash Drive

If the MOBO supports Booting from USB, is it possible to create a bootable installation image on a USB thumb drive?

(the D-word) small Linux. So yes. And you don't even need a large Flash drive. :)

True, even 2.0 would be slow compared to IDE. But if that is the only method you have at hand, it is possible.

It is indeed possible. I believe you can run Slax and Puppy Linux as well as a few other operating systems off a usb drive although technically you should be able to run anything that will run off a live cd. The process is sometimes a bit hairy though, but its certainly possible.
