1.0 General Issues

- 1.1 Running lWWP under WindowsNT

Worms World Party is not designed to run under WindowsNT due to operating system limitations of DirectX under this platform (WWP requires DirectX6).

- 1.2 WWP (EUROPEAN), (US) and (POLISH) Service Pack 1 NOW AVAILABLE

Patching software involves updating to the latest version currently available, improving compatibility with hardware and software configurations by addressing problems only found after release. With Worms World Party, as with all software, it is important to keep up to date to ensure that the version you are playing is the most recent one. If you are happy with your game, it isn't necessary to install the patch, however if you are having problems, it is recommended that you do so.

For reference the patch includes Laserlock incompatibility updates as detailed in section 1.4, server / client updates and game tweaks required for the forthcoming mission editor.

PLEASE NOTE that this update is required for successful online play. The patch is now available on the official WWP web site at:

- 1.4 EUROPEAN Release Laserlock Incompatibility

If you are experiencing problems with the Laserlock protection system incorporated on your WWP CD-ROM please refer to section 1.2. This problem has been found to exist when attempting to play the game on certain models of DVD-ROM drives. The now available patch has been engineered in order to address this issue.

PLEASE NOTE that an amended update to Service Pack 1 has now been made available for download as of 13th June 2001 to address other customer reported Laserlock incompatibilities.

- 1.5 WWP (AUSTRALIAN) and (TAIWANESE) fix NOW AVAILABLE

If you are experiencing problems running the Australian or Taiwanese versions of the game post application of the latest EU patch. Download the appropriate file that is now available from the main downloads page on the WWP official site.

2.0 Installation Issues

- 2.1 General installation problems

Do you have your autorun settings disabled? To install the game manually, please follow these steps:

- Hold down the left shift key and insert the game CD into your CD drive.

- Double click on 'My Computer'.

- Click the right mouse button on the CD drive containing the game disc.

- Click the left mouse button on 'Explore'.

- In the right hand window, double click on the 'Installer' folder.

- Double click on the 'setup.exe' file to run the install procedure.

If installation problems are still experienced, it appears that your system is having problems initialising InstallShield. This could be directly related to a CD drive speed problem. A quick solution to this is to disable the DMA on your CD drive. This will approximately halve the speed of the CD-ROM drive and will hopefully enable it to read the installer. Please follow the instructions below:

- Double click on 'My Computer'.

- Double click on 'Control Panel'.

- Double click on 'System'.

- Select 'Device Manager'.

- Click on the plus (+) box next to CD-ROM.

- Double click on the CD-ROM drive.

- Select 'Settings'.

- Deselect the 'DMA' box (if selected).

- Restart the computer.

- 2.2 Error messages during installation

This may occur due to a conflict with other programs running in the background. It is strongly recommended that all other programs be subsequently closed down prior to attempting installation. In addition to this, please ensure that all virus scanners, schedulers and crash guards are disabled. If this still doesn't work, please follow these steps:

- Restart the computer and wait until Windows has completely loaded.

- Press 'Ctrl+Alt+Delete' until the 'Close Program' dialogue appears.

- Close programs except 'Explorer'/'Systray'(highlight and select 'End Task').

- When you only have the two aforementioned programs left, click 'Cancel'.

- Repeat the installation procedure.

If an error message appears relating to a 'move data process' it is highly probable that there is a physical problem with the CD. If possible, install the game on another system to check for the possibility. If it exhibits the same problem, please email rmts@team17.com for further information.

- 2.3 WWP installs with incorrect locale

The language installed for WWP (in game) will be ultimately determined by the regional language settings (and revision) of Windows on your system. If you have a French version of Windows, for example, but bought the game in England, the game will install in French. If your version of Windows is correct, but you are still running in a different language, please ensure that the item in your regional settings is set to a 'standard' locale version and the same language as your Windows install. Choosing the desired language during the initial install procedure will however force the language to your selection throughout the front end menus.

3.0 Running The Game

- 3.1 After launching WWP an 'Illegal Operation' occurs

If you receive an 'Illegal Operation', click on the Details button and look for a line showing '...failed in module'.

The most common errors here are 'module WWP.EXE' and 'module DirectX2D.dll'. Please see below for solutions to both these problems.

- Module WWP.EXE

With this problem there may be a error within the WWP.EXE file. To test this, run the WWP.EXE from the CD. Please follow these steps:

- When WWP was installed to your system it made a desktop shortcut.

- Right click on the 'Shortcut to WWP'.

- Left click on 'Properties'.

- Click on the 'Shortcut' Tab.

- Change the Target: to read "X:\DATA\RESOURCE\Y\WWP???.exe" (where 'X' is the letter of the CD-ROM drive and 'Y' is the desired language). Please note that the main executable files are labelled individually for each locale.

- Click on 'Apply'.

- Click on 'OK'.

- Ensure the CD is inserted and double click on the shortcut.

If this has no effect, a common cause of this is that either you have installed the game to a corrupted section of your hard drive (in which case we recommend a thorough Scandisk then a re-installation) or that your file is infected with a virus. If you think that it could be a virus, please ensure that your anti-virus software can detect and clean the WIN32/CIH virus. If you don't possess any such software, we recommend that you download a trial version from the Internet.

- Module DIRECTX2D.DLL

A problem relating to the DirectX2D.dll file is usually solved by one of the following methods.

A problem may have occurred with the Graphics Acceleration of the computer, please follow the steps below to make sure it is set to full:

- Right click on 'My Computer'.

- Left click on 'Properties'.

- Select the 'Performance' Tab.

- Click on 'Graphics'.

- Make sure the Acceleration slider is set to full.

The video card drivers on the system may possibly be conflicting with the game, therefore we would suggest installing the very latest drivers to your video card. To obtain the drivers please either contact your computer vendor or try downloading them from the manufacturer's website.

- 3.2 Problems with virtual drivers (VXD's)

If problems occur with Virtual Drivers (VXD's) after trying to launch the game, it could relate to one of the following:

- The Primary Hard Drive (C:) could be low on free space, please check to make sure that you have enough space left so it can use virtual memory (we would recommend around 50MB).

- If the VXD relates to a certain device on your system (for example DSOUND) then you will be required to update the device to the latest drivers. For further information on how to achieve this please relate to the Sound or Video sections later in this document.

- 3.3 Nothing happens when the game is launched

If the game doesn't load, it is likely that there are problems getting past the copy protection. Usual symptoms of this include showing a loading screen then stopping, or having the loading icon and then being returned to Windows.

A quick solution to this is to disable the DMA on your CD drive. This will approximately halve the speed of the CD-ROM drive and will hopefully enable it to read the software protection. Please follow the instructions below:

- Right click on 'My Computer'.

- Left click on 'Properties'.

- Select 'Device Manager'.

- Click on the plus (+) box next to CD-ROM.

- Double click on the CD-ROM drive.

- Select 'Settings'.

- Deselect the 'DMA' box (if selected).

- Restart the computer.

- 3.4 The game returns to Windows after launching

Please refer to the Graphics section for updating your video card drivers, as the problem usually occurs when the game cannot initialise DirectX correctly.

- 3.5 Invalid page fault in module DF394B.TMP with US release

If you are experiencing this problem when attempting to run the US release of the game, this seems directly related to an incompatibility with the protection system supplied on the disc. It is recommended that you completely uninstall WWP and perform a full clean reinstall. Then download the European version of the patch from the official web site and apply it. You should now be able to run the game successfully.

4.0 Graphic Issues

- 4.1 Matrox G100/G200 chipsets

This problem will relate to the Bus Mastering Option being set to ON. Please follow the instructions below that will help you disable this option and should solve any graphical corruption within the game:

- Double click on 'My Computer'.

- Double click on 'Control Panel'.

- Double click on 'Display'.

- Select 'Settings'.

- Click on 'Advanced'.

- Within the Advanced options disable 'Bus Mastering'.

- Restart your computer.

- Attempt to run the game again.

- 4.2 Creative Blaster Banshee

Update the driver from the Creative Labs Website: http://www.creaf.com dated after August 27th 1999.

- 4.3 Intel i740 chipsets

Please see details within section 6.2 Random crashes during play (Intel i740 chipset).

- 4.4 Other

If your video card is not referenced within this document then please ensure you have the very latest driver from the manufacturer. To confirm the make and type of the video card so you can contact the manufacturer, please follow the instructions below:

- Double click on 'My Computer'.

- Double click on the 'C:' Drive.

- Double click on the 'Program Files' folder.

- Double click on the 'DirectX' folder.

- Double click on the 'Setup' folder.

- Double click on 'DXDIAG.EXE' or 'DXINFO.EXE' program.

- Within the above programs you will be able to check the manufacturer of the video card and you will also be able to check the version of the driver which you currently have on the system. For installing any new drivers please refer to the driver documentation.

- 4.5 Problems with a flickering screen

If your screen (or part of your screen) exhibits a flickering effect on either the menu or in game, you could have problems with your refresh rates.

- Double click on 'My Computer'.

- Double click on the 'Control Panel.

- Double click on the 'Display'.

- Select your video card settings.

- Locate your refresh rate settings, and change them to adapter default.

- Try the game again.

If the game still shows flickering, make sure that no programs are running in the background and that there are no extra toolbars or channels present before launching the game.

5.0 Sound Issues

- 5.1 General sound problems with the game

You may have the reverb set to ON within your sound card settings, this is known to cause some problems with the sound effects for the game. Please follow the instructions below to disable the reverb option:

- Within your sound card software access 'Mixer' or 'Volume Controls'.

- Select 'WaveSynth' or 'Synth' section.

- Ensure that 'Reverb' MUTE or OFF function is selected.

You may also encounter problems with the sound distorting, this could be directly related to 'Bass' and 'Treble' settings being out of sync or 'Spatial' or '3D-Stereo' sound option may have been selected. To check this possibility please refer to the instructions below:

- Within your sound card software access 'Mixer' or 'Volume Controls'.

- Select 'Bass' and/or 'Treble' section.

- Ensure that settings are at a similar level or set to personal preference.

- If you still have problems then please make sure that the 'Spatial' or '3D-Stereo' sound option is disabled.

If the aforementioned fails to alleviate your problem or alternatively you do not have the options available then it could relate to the drivers of the sound card. To solve this we would recommend that you obtain the latest drivers from the manufacturer. To confirm the make of the sound card so you can contact the manufacturer, please follow the instructions below:

- Double click on 'My Computer'.

- Double click on the 'C:' Drive.

- Double click on the 'Program Files' folder.

- Double click on the 'DirectX' folder.

- Double click on the 'Setup' folder.

- Double click on 'DXDIAG.EXE' or 'DXINFO.EXE' program.

- Within the above programs you will be able to check the manufacturer of the sound card and you will also be able to check the version of the driver which you have currently on the system. For installing the new drivers please refer to the driver documentation.

- 5.2 Soundbank Editor Download

6.0 Incompatibilities

- 6.1 Keyboard freezing during a game

A problem can occur with some brands of wheel mouse. This may happen if the wheel button is moved in game, menus open in the background on the desktop as a result (therefore passing keyboard control away from WWP). One way to solve this is to try setting the wheel mouse settings to default. Please try the following:

- Double click on 'My Computer'.

- Double click on 'Control Panel'.

- Double click on 'Mouse'.

- Click on 'Wheel'.

- Set your Wheel settings to 'default'.

- Attempt to run the game again.

- 6.2 Random crashes during play (Intel i740 chipset)

This problem usually effects the Intel 740 chipset and the driver from which is being currently used on your system. The usual solution would be to contact your computer vendor or the manufacturer of the video card for the latest driver. Please note that Intel make the chips for these cards and the reference drivers from the Intel Website may not be 100% compatible with your video card.

7.0 Wormnet/Network Issues

- 7.1 A fatal error occurs when logging on Wormnet

The most common reason why this happens is because the game requires a valid link to your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to perform tasks. The game will not be able to achieve this without a connection, therefore please make sure you have the Internet open as a background task to ensure a viable connection prior to running the game and logging on Wormnet.

If a message is displayed stating 'Fatal error during gameserver connection' when attempting to connect to Wormnet through a proxy server. Test network setttings from within WWP and ensure that the proxy is enabled. If not make sure that the checkbox is highlighted above the test network button. If the checkbox is highlighted and the proxy is still listed as disabled then review your proxy port number as this may have been incorrectly entered. If you are still unsure please contact your network administrator to establish if you have web proxy and that it is Harvest Cache compatible.

- 7.2 Multiplayer options available

WWP can either be played on a single system (a Hotseat game), over a Local Area Network, or over Wormnet. There will be no support for either direct modem or null modem play.

- 7.3 How to register on Wormnet

The registration for Wormnet occurs within the game. Launch the game, and when the main menu appears select 'play over LAN or the Internet'. Now type in your nickname and click on Wormnet. From here you can select which server you want to log onto and then register your details, which will allow you to input a desired username and password.

- 7.4 Port information for network connection via firewalls

To ensure successful usage your machine requires outgoing connections on TCP ports 80 and 6677, as well as on TCP ports 17010, 17011 and 17012. If you want to be able to host a game you will have to redirect incoming packets on the TCP ports to your machine.

You will also need to set your IP address within the front end of the game. Select the configuration option on the network screen and enter the IP address of your gateway in the box labelled 'your I.P. address'. The IP address should not begin with 10. , 192.168. or 169.254. .

Finally you will need to edit the registry to force this address to be used. Please note that we cannot be held responsible for any damage incurred to your machine by using registry files or following any of the advice given on this site. Modification of your registry is performed at your own risk. You should always have a back up of your registry before making any changes

- Select 'Start'.

- Select 'Run...'.

- Type 'regedit' and select 'OK' to display the registry editor structure.

- Select down through the directory structure to

'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Team17SoftwareLTD\Worm sWorldParty\NetSettings'.

- Select 'NetSettings'.

- Select 'AddressOverride'.

- Replace the '0' value with '1' and select 'OK'.

- Select 'Exit' from the editor 'File' menu.

- It should now be possible to host games successfully.

- 7.5 Running via an ADSL internet connection

For reference Worms World Party fully supports ADSL internet connections.

8.0 General Issues

- 8.1 Inability to save scheme settings

When saving settings in WWP, you must type in a name for your scheme after amendment. To achieve this, click on the input box next to the save button and type in a name over the '[user defined]' entry. Now click on the 'save' button. Please note that a minimum of three characters must be entered for the scheme name to save successfully.

- 8.2 Hints and tips on roping

The most common problem with roping is being unaware of its full usage:

- The repeat swing is performed by losing the rope in mid-air (by pressing space), then launching another rope (by pressing space again). By using this method, it is possible to swing across the landscape Tarzan-style.

- If you cannot rope swing, please note that some games (e.g. mission games) have limits on the ropes power. If you want full swinging ability, create a new game and go to the weapons screen. By changing the power of the ropes you can set how many swings you are allowed. Setting the power to maximum will give infinite swings. For practice, go to Rope Training.

- Did you know that you can swing 360 degrees with the rope? The best way to achieve this is with a combination of bouncing off objects with shortening and lengthening the rope.

- 8.3 Flag changing in Wormnet

The flags in the lobby of Wormnet are directly related to the regional settings of your computer. If you wish to change the country flag, follow these instructions:

- Double click on 'My Computer'.

- Double click on 'Control Panel'.

- Double click on 'Regional Settings'.

- Select desired language.

The flag that you have whilst playing in game is set up when you create a team. To amend this, edit your team details.

- 8.4 Backing up team files

If you want to ensure that you don't lose all your team information, you will need to back up the 'wg.wwp' file. The related file may be located within the 'WWP\User\Teams\' folder.

- 8.5 Usage of Invisibility

Many people have asked why they cannot get the Invisibility option to work in a Hotseat game. The reason for this is fairly simple. Invisibility will turn your Worms invisible (to the other players) until they attack or get attacked. On a single computer this feature is pointless as the other player can still see your Worms. Therefore this option is only available in Internet or Network games.

Are you trying to make a server that is always up? Or do you want to have one just when you want to play?

If you play, let me know where, I am always looking for new competition.

It seems that WWP doesn't function properly with nvidia drivers above 66.93. This is a major sucking point because having new drivers usually improves gameplay with some newer games. The game still functions but the menus are agonzingly slow, and sometimes crashes. Gameplay, however, is unaffected. No luck in trying to get Team17 to get a patch going as they no longer support the game.

If you want to play the game without slow menus and intermittent crashes, you will have to roll back your drivers to 66.93. This has nothing to do with having a newer processor AMD 64 or a PCI-E Video Card.

Worm away people... if you ever get through the menus.

These jerks still haven't fixed this problem. I love this game and suffer greatly from not playing. SMACK MY WORM VEIN UP AND GIVE ME MY FIX. I don't want to have to install this thing on a t-bird 1100 just to play it.
