i was thinking today on my way to work...

It would be cool if we did an article/review on the top cards of the various nvidia generations.

You have the 6800 Ultra,

I can send you a ti4600 (i would need it back though - it goes in my server)

you have a ti-500

maybe a GF2 around

I have a TnT2 somewhere

All running the same benchies and stuff, and see how they really compare!!! that would be GGRRREEEEAAAATTTTEE

and compare them all... I think that would be interesting as hell!!!

What you think guys? Rb.. I think this would be a good one for you!!!

I know I would read it.

I don't have a GF2 anymore. Sold it.

But I think that its a great idea.

I could set up a system just for doing the tests. Clean install and benches only, nothing else on the system. Dunno about the TNT and GF2 though. Aren't they older voltage spec'd?

I guess so. Although the really old cards will be hard to bench on the same system. Maybe just the Ti500 thru the 6800 U. Of course we won't have any of the newer cards. I'm not ready to go PCI-e yet.

I think we should include some ATI too. Make it an all around comparison. I've got my 9700 Pro. A PCI 7000 AIW.

Just for grins I can throw a PCI Voodoo 5 5500 into the mix!

Do you need a loaner card while I use your 4600?

OK, heres my list of what I have.

AGP cards:

1) Vanta 8 MB card (2)

2) Trident 3Dimage 9750 4 MB (toasted?? pulled from dead system, never tested)

3) XFX GF4 440MXse 64 MB

4) Visiontek GF3 Ti500 64 MB (2)

5) PNY GF4 Ti4200 128 MB

6) PNY GF 6800 Ultra 256 MB

7) ATI 9600 AIW

8) ATI 9700 Pro

PCI cards:

1) VooDoo 5 5500 64 MB PCI

2) ATI 7000 AIW PCI

Testing parameters:

Abit NF7S ver 2

Athlon XP 1800+ (physically unlocked) or 2600+

Etc. Not really important stuff Probably just a CD-ROM and a hard drive is all.

I'll install a fresh copy of Windows XP SP2 & updates, all drivers, except the video drivers. I'll just use the native Windows drivers for now. Install necessary software for testing. I'll image the install in that state. Then I can install video drivers and do the testing. That way every single card will be working off of the same identical install and hardware.

Testing software:

1) 3D Mark 2001se

2) 3D Mark 2003 Pro

3) 3D Mark 2005 Pro

4) AquaMark

Yes I bought the Pro versions

Anything I left out for testing or whatever? I'm open to any/all suggestions.

Maybe a PC Mark 2 or 4 to see if the cards make any difference?

I'm thinking of doing it from a humorous standpoint.

Ya know how we a COD are doing this just for the giggles. How back in the day, how impressed we were with what now would be laughable. I'm also going to see if I can find some old sales specs for prices and such. What we were paying for these cards when they were released or shortly thereafter.

If you guys have any ideas on how to punch this up to make it more readable or funny let me know!

Hey, I think that's a great angle. Also, it might be cool to go into some of the games that required this "cutting edge" hardware. lol, this will be cool

I'm not sure about the gaming angle. Since I really don't game that much. Also I always buy games after they've been out for a while. Cheap bastard that I am. Well on some things anyways.

Actually, I was thinking of games that were popular when the cards first came out. Older games.
