Netcraft's numbers show that The Planet has grown from 124,000 to more than 578,000 hostnames this year. The Planet's Total Control Server Program is designed for small and medium-sized businesses that have grown beyond a standard dedicated server but cannot afford to move up to a traditional managed solution. Under the program, customers are able to customize their own plans from a menu of hardware, software, bandwidth, backup and professional services. Fees range from $249 to $1,999 per month. Netcraft said the program's approach has been popular with customers of other hosting providers. According to Netcraft's hosting provider switching analysis, The Planet added 448,447 hostnames since the program debuted in March, of which over 242,000 have come from rival hosting providers. EV1Servers took the hardest hit, Netcraft said, losing 51,000 hostnames to the Planet.
