I was getting really bad temps with the heatsink I was using on one of my folding rigs. I was using the Akasa AK-821:

COOLER SPECIFICATION

Supports AMD Athlon XP 2800+

AMD Approved

Fan dim: 60 x 60 x 20mm

rated speed: 4800 RPM

Sound: 32.5 dB(A)

Air flow: 22.0 CFM

Bearing: Ball bearing

Heatsink dim: 80.8 x 60 x 42 mm

Don't laugh it was free from Gman for a review he did once at SysCool I believe. (But its no longer there)

Anyways the system in question is:

Mobo: Abit NF7-s

CPU: AMD 1800+ (unlocked w/microtip pen) @ 8.5x191 = 1623 MHz

Memory: 2x512 Mb Xtreme DDR PC3000

And I was getting these temps:

So I was looking to buy a new HSF and came across a Vantec AeroFlow clone made by PCToys. pcToys AeroMaxx Cooler for Socket A / 7 /370

I found one at CoolerGuys.com for $14.00 on sale. (Its now $18.95) Way cheaper than the $25.00+ for the Vantec.

And the Artic Silver Ceramique hasn't even had the needed 3 days to set up yet and I get these temps! Not a bad reduction if you ask me. Well worth the 14 bux.

Well, I could have told you about the Akasa. I reviewed the big brother to the 821, the 824 and it was a poor performer. I admit that if you were doing surfing and email, it would probably be ok. Anything more taxing than that and I would be afraid of my PC smoking.

Oh I knew it but I had no other real options at hand.

I'll see what I can do. Welcome, btw.
