Take it apart and spray some WD-40 in there, quick! j/k

Thats a drag man. Maxtor has a really good RMA policy though. Get MaxBlast and run the tests on it to see if its dying or not. If MaxBlast gives you some error codes write "em down and contact Maxtor.

MaxBlast

i tried that before and maxtor basically told me to call back when it dies.
Certain Error messages will warrant an immediate replacement though Dead or not. I know from personal experience.

Ouch, it just boils down to Maxtor needs to start making better drives...
Maxtor and Western Digital make the best drives IMO! Their failure rate is way below all the other Mfr's. especially IBM and Fujitsu.

Yeah.. but think of it this way... more companies used the IBM drives, and for the average consumer, they don't stress the drives as much as some of us out here... Half ass manufacturing can be fine when people like us don't use their products. i am not saying that their drives are (the S-word)... because I have only had one WD fail in all my life. But, there are good lots and bad lots, and quality control needs to be at the forefront of any manufacturing.
