To get the joking out early I know that what I did was wrong by not perchasing the computer through COD.

I bought a DELL demension 8100 series

I have 256mb of ram

32 bit

I dont know what type of ram it is.

I had a GeForce 2MX2 game card that I just replaced with a GForce ti4400 which burnt out. so I perchased a ATI 9600XT.

What my problem seems to be is that I play this one First shooter game called Freedom fighters. and when I get in heavy action on the game my charictor does not want to keep up with my mouse.

I was wondering if it is a problem that anyone else has run into in the past.

As I said in PM. What driver version are you using?

Are you sure all references to the Nvidia drivers are gone?

Get the 3.7 Catalyst and try them they are the best out right now IMO. I use them myself.

www.ati.com

Downloads go through the rigamarole and they'll offer you the 3.10's. Go to the bottom of the page and look for archived drivers or something like that. Get the driver and the control panel separately, not the full larger install package.

Driver procedure:

1) From Add/Remove Programs control panel: Uninstall ATI Control Panel

2) Reboot

3) From Add/Remove Programs control panel: Uninstall ATI Driver

4) Reboot

5) Cancel out of all the Found New Hardware crap

6) Install ATI Driver

7) Reboot

8) Install ATI Control Panel

9) Reboot

Done

Don't worry about it and just follow the instructions I gave. If you don't know it doesn't really matter. If it was the one that shipped with the card its probly 3-6 generations ago.

the link you posted I down loaded then went in the add/remove file and I have some thing in there that say GeForce so I tryed to remove and said file cannot be found.so I removed everything in order and reinstalled in order and still have same problem.

But I think I found the drivers

NEC NR-7800A CDROM

GENERIC IDE Disk Type55

Oh crap! Thats one of the things I fixed  I installed XP on the Dell to get rid of the dreaded ME (Mediocre Edition)

`So should I buy a new mother board instead of trying to fix this crap?

I would buy a copy of XP Home Edtition Uprade or OEM and get rid of ME and all the Dell crap. You would see a good performance increase from that.

Buying a new Mobo means you're gonna need a new case and a new processor. Yours is a socket 423 willy P4 I think (slow). So you're looking at a major overhaul.

If it were a dodge truck I would push out to the desert and shoot it up but since my DELL cost more than that I think I should keep it around for a little while.

Also I've seen problems like this on other forums. Switching from Nvidia to ATI is sometimes a real pain. And the only way to be sure to remove driver conflicts is a complete reformat and reinstall of the OS.

So Rb should I send you the vidcard when I have you build my computer in the summer? That way it gets done right.

I guess. We can build around it for sure.

No telling what kind of stuff will be available this summer.

Sounds to me Big_balls like your getting video lag.

How much AA and AF are u running and at what resolution?

Have you reformatted yet since the Nv to ATI switch?

A friend of mine did the same thing and reformatting is the ONLY way.

Even those programs that search and and remove old files won't get it done.

I switched from Nvidia to ATI and didn't have any problems. Of course, I got rid of all the files associated with my Nvidia gpu. I have a program, can't remember the name now, it's on my home PC. Basically, searches your registry and deletes all associated entries.

Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Best way to be sure the driver conflicts are not the problem is a reformat.

How do you reformat?

http://www.windowsreinstall.com/

Theres a start but I have to recommend that you go to Wal Mart or somewhere and get a copy of Windows XP Home or Pro.

ME is the worst MS OS ever.
