I dont know too much but i use to have a Geforce 256 32MB. I spent 70 bucks to get this ATI 9200 128MB and it is awesome! Right now this place has the same one but its down to 60 dollars. Here are the specs and web site compgeeks

I have no idea what any of those specs mean but I'm shure it is important to now all of that stuff. any way I was looking at the on it how do you tell all the stuff that you will need to buy the right card?

In my opinion the video card market is shifting to ATI if you want max performance with the best color and visual quality. ATI also owns the roost when it comes to running AA and AF.

If you do go with Nvidia dont buy any cards with a MX label. Also watch out for the FX 5200 series and lower numbers, they are equivelant 'mx' type cards. They maybe cheap but they will be equally bad at performance.

This link over at THG might be a bit dated but nevertheless it has good reference info...

Here are some links. I assume you aren't going to be doing anything strenuous with teh card, just gaming and whatnot. If so, any of these cards will be fine:

9200SE

9200

9200SE (Newegg)

9500

These are all around $100 or less. If you want to spend more, let us know what price range you are willing to go to and we can be more specific.

No ATI is a good card but I think if you want to go Performance/Low-cost you should be looking in the GeForce direction for a card. Hi performance Low cost that's what hooked me. I have had both types of cards and I think that the driver support for the GeForce is written with most games in mind where I have seen ATI make some of there drivers geared just to the current Benchmarks <_< leaving some hanging in the Drivers department... However I have never personally found a game I could not run on my ATI card have only read about it. Also I would get more from others on this topic before I made a choice. My current card it an XFX GeForce4 Ti4200 Great card runs a bit hot tho had to get a new Heatsink/Fan for it.

Your not going to go wrong either way you go on this one ;) .... Just check reviews for the card you want. One place you can try and I usually check is Circuit City's Feedback area Most ppl on there a just like you in the fact that this may have been a first purchase and they will relate to you better in the video buyer. You can find out if there were probs with there mother board type of card heat just anything they can do to get it not to work HEHE..

PLEASE NOTE... THEY DO NOT ALWAYS KNOW WTF THERE TALKING ABOUT SO IF THEY SOUND SILLY THEY PROB. ARE :D

Rb You got any good sites (LMAO I know you do) for Video Card Reviews. Lots of different types of cards and benchmarks cost/benifits Clk rate/Overclocking ability things like that???

Back to work time HEHE

Depends on what you wanna spend mainly. Give us a price range.

Also as Gman said stay away from the MX versions as they are raped of performance. Also the FX5200's are basically an MX version of the FX series.

As for ATI they are the way to go right now, but stay away from the se versions, they're like ATI's versions of the MX. They disabled some of the pipelines so you take a real performance hit there.

Best bang for buck right now? 9600 Pro or XT would be my choice of a good mid-range card with DX9 support and reasonably good performance.

okay that is a little more than I would like to spend right know. I was looking for maybe $60 But I guess thats not going to happen any time soon for me. <_<

So Im also asking if anyone has a card that they have laying around that they would be willing to sell. But please dont cheat yourself on the price. :D

I also know that what I buy from here is an as is deal and [COD] is not going to be held responsible for it.

Ya I know that, but dang I'm not looking to pump a bunch of money into this computer if it is going to be out dated in about a year. so the other alternative is do a little upgrading here and there, and make it last till I can send you, enough money to make the ultimate computer with free upgades.Or just build me one hell of a computer for a good price. When I have enough money that is. And yes Rebreb I am talking about having you make my next one, if you want?

Be more than happy to build you a system. COD members get a special discount.

And as for having a system thats outdated, most systems are outdated by the time you open the box it comes in these days!

I hit edit by mistake, sorry Rb. I meant to quote you in a post of my own. Anyway, Rb knows his stuff.

BD thats an "SE" version. It'll have lower quality, slower speed memory and reduced pipelines compared to a 64 Mb Pro version. The 64 Mb Pro version will be faster.

ATI "SE" = Nvidia "MX"

I have narowed it down to choices.

1.Gforce4 ti4200 128mb

2.Radeon 9200

3.Gforce4 ti4200 64

K Now from these choices which one would the computer specialist choose?

1. The ti4200 128 Mb is slower than the 64 meg version.

2. 9200 is newer technology and supports DX9, the others don't.

3. Faster than the 128 meg version.

My vote 9200 Pro version. If you can't quite afford a Pro version then wait a week or two more till you can.
