JimBowy
Is it a lost cause to even try OC'ing a board without AGP/PCI Lock? As far as I know only the latest boards (such as nForce2's, etc.) are the only boards that support this. My board, an ASUS a7v333-r doesn't support these features. I can OC but it's nothing special. I can increase my FSB from 133 to 140 and then my computer hangs and or crashes. How disappointing...
Rbreb13
Yeah most of the time it doesn't work without a lock. Thats why you need to unlock your processor. So you can raise the multiplier and up the fsb. Then you can get a little higher sometimes, but you don't get the gain a higher fsb yields. Having good components helps too. I've noticed in my OC'n that usually the NIC causes the OC to fail first. Most NIC's really hate an out of spec fsb.
PC-HAngover
I know when I try to OC my P4 willy on my Abit TH7- Raid. Whenever I get a higer clock speed for the processor.. my 3dmark score goes down! But I know it isn't thermal throttling, because my processormark score goes up! :? I think it has something to do with the agp.. I just don't get it.
jsgolfman
I know what you mean, I have the A7M266 and i got to 145, but that was it. Reboot city after that.
JimBowy
Yea it sucks... I guess I really need to try OC'ing my new server I just purchased. I got an XP1700+ and a Biostar nForce2 motherboard. Hopefully that thing will OC at least 0.1 GHz with a Volcano 7 cooler.
Rbreb13
Biostar=OEM (Dell, etc use them) usually. It'll probly be very limited in the BIOS.
JimBowy
Alright, I'll have to check it out... it was a very cheap motherboard though, it was $58.00 after rebate from www.newegg.com A very good deal for a cheap nForce 2 board (its just in my home server sitting in the basement running 24/7). jsgolfman
Don't all the nforce boards unlock the multiplier or is it just the ASUS? If so, it should clock pretty well. I loved my 1700.

I loved my 1700. I know the ASUS a7n8x deluxe does, thats for sure. Couldn't really tell you though. The guys at www.nforcershq.com will know though.
