Linux worm creating P2P attack network

A new worm that attacks Linux Web servers has compromised more than 3,500 machines, creating a rogue peer-to-peer network that has been used to attack other computers with a flood of data, security experts said Saturday.

this can be taken as a true test of the open source community, how long will it take for a patch to come out?

first thing tomorrow morning ill check slashdot and see what happens. if only i was a coder who knew all this stuff. id be workin on a patch right now! :)

Update:

The Linux Slapper worm had compromised more than 6,700 servers as of early Monday morning, and it continues to create a peer-to-peer attack network that could shut down even corporate Internet connections.
