I have been searching high and low for a cheap portable MP3 solution. I have tried everything from MiniDisc recorders to MP3 compatible portable CD players. When I think I finally find something, I realize that it doesn't do what I had hoped for, or the software was very confusing and/or limited. I have spent countless days and way too much money on gas traveling from store to store to return products that don't do what I want.

For my money it was the Sonic Blue Rio S30s. It is a bit larger but it does have a backlight display and has 64mb internal with SD or MMC for external memory. With a free firmware updrade, my 256mb SD card along with the internal 64mb keeps me jamming for a LONG time. It runs off of 1 AAA battery for about 8-10 hours. The best part about this deal is I have some "friends" at Circuit City that honor web page price matching - a little web page editing and a color print out costed me about 10 minutes at home and I bought this unit for $69.99 when it was being sold by Circuit City for $150. They didn't care much because the new model was out and they were expecting the price drop anyway  .... lol....

I am using my brother's RCA lyra and for the most part it is really easy to use on XP. For some reason I seem to have problems getting the songs that I have dragged into the external memory to show up when I turn on my lyra. I've saved some tracks onto the internal memory and some to the external by dragging them into the respective locations on XP but as ive said before, when the mp3 player is turned on...it doesnt seem to read the ones on the card. what do i do?

I tried upgrading the driver using the suggested firmware. However, all it did was cause my computer to crash and the Lyra would not turn on. Evrytime I tried to connect the USB, all it would flash "USB Transfer...." The firmware software is unable to locate the device. Is there a way to reset the internal memory of the Lyra?

In addition to my last post, since attempting to upgrade the firmware, everytime I connect the Lyra to my computer, I am unable to open My Computer or any other folder. I run Windows XP. I tried sending a message to RCA but no response.

For those whose drivers are missing... try this:

I want to thank whoever I am replying to. My lyra was not doing anything but flashing every 3 seconds or so. I had no idea what to do and then logged on to y'all. I downloaded the firmware and now everything is fine. Thanks.
